Perla Vita Beerens

Perla Vita Beerens graduated as a screenwriter from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2019. Shortly thereafter, she and Elvira Porcedda were selected for NTR Kort!, where she collaborated on STUCKWITU (directed by Timo Ottevanger, 2020), a slacker comedy about two friends who can’t let go of their youth.

In 2022, she wrote two episodes of the series SIHAME and served as head writer for the web series EN NU BEN IK VERLIEFD (directed by Alkan Çöklü, 2023). She also worked on the interactive web series WADOEJE (directed by Hanna van Niekerk) and wrote the 3LAB pilot RAKHI & PEPPE (directed by Ayla Spaans), which was selected for a full season.
Together with director Aramis Garcia Gonzalez, she developed several short films, including LAAT ME BINNEN (2023), a dialogue-driven film between a Turkish boy and his mother via the intercom of an apartment building. She also wrote HOBI (2024), a Filmfonds Shorts production about an Aruban father who realizes during his day off that he still can’t settle in the Netherlands. Actor Kendrick Etmon was nominated for a Golden Calf for this film.

Currently (2026), Perla is co-writing the feature film PEPERKLIPS (directed by Jaime Levinas), a coming-of-age story about uprooting and migration. She is also writing her first audiobook for Storytel, a soft romance about non-monogamy, and is developing the play ONBEGRIJPELIJK RIJK together with Ferhat Kaplan. In addition to her work as a writer, she regularly gives guest lectures at the Netherlands Film Academy and the HKU. Her first article for Playboy will be published in June 2026.
Perla’s work moves between coming-of-age stories, tragicomedy, and family drama, often incorporating playful genre elements and a touch of satire. In her stories, she explores themes such as trauma, women’s autonomy, positive sexual representation, and identity.
