Sophie Dros is a filmmaker who graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2015 with the documentary My Silicone Love. Since then, she has directed a series of films and series, including Genderbende, King of the Cruise, Sisterhood, Blozende Oortjes, and Shelley in Wonderland. Her work has been selected for international festivals such as IDFA and Hot Docs, and broadcast by  VPRO and Videoland.

In recent years, Sophie has also developed herself as a fiction filmmaker. She co-wrote a feature film script with screenwriter Emily Reekers and producer Paula van der Oest, is currently working on a second feature with the same team, and is developing a series for a streaming platform. In her fiction projects, she remains true to her documentary instincts: curious, visually driven, and always searching for the human story beneath the surface.

Sophie is drawn to intriguing subjects and lifestyles, seeking out their true essence. With a deep-rooted passion for visual storytelling, she creates films that transcend societal boundaries, evoke empathy, and offer new perspectives on what it means to be human.

COACH / TEACHER

Beyond her directorial pursuits, Sophie extends her passion and expertise to the next generation of filmmakers through her teaching position at the prestigious Netherlands Filmacademie and the TV Academy. As an educator, she imparts her knowledge and ignites the creative flames within aspiring filmmakers. Sophie encourages her students to venture into uncharted territory, pushing the boundaries of conventional storytelling and developing their distinct artistic voices.

Sophie Dros also works as a (script)coach, providing guidance to directors from script development to editing. Her keen eye for detail and deep understanding of storytelling enables her to offer invaluable insights into refining scripts, enhancing visual aesthetics, and making impactful editing decisions. By collaborating closely with directors, she ensures that their creative visions are brought to life authentically, resonating with audiences on both intellectual and emotional levels.
