Tobi Lakmaker was born and raised in Amsterdam. He briefly studied Russian and literary studies, and in 2018 completed a degree in philosophy at the University of Amsterdam.

Tobi wrote the acclaimed debut novel THE HISTORY OF MY SEXUALITY, for which he (to the point of exhaustion) was compared to Grunberg and Salinger. The book is being translated into eleven languages and a film adaptation is in the works.
